CHÓR W KONTAKCIE

Founded and conducted by Syrian musician and composer Wassim Ibrahim, the Choir appeared on the musical map of Krakow in the spring of 2015. From the very beginning, it was guided by the ideas of diversity and multiculturalism – both in relation to its repertoire and membership. The choir has become a meeting place for professional musicians and music amateurs, young and senior people from different walks of life devoting themselves to various non-musical passions, coming from near and far corners of Europe and the world.

The Kontakt Choir (Chór w Kontakcie) has performed many times in Krakow’s cultural and artistic institutions. The group performed, among others, at the Goethe Institute, the International Cultural Center or the Groteska Theater (as part of the Cracow Orient Festival). Their concerts have featured and adorned academic events, such as the Arab Days of the Jagiellonian University. They have performed during outdoor events, including the Opening of Dietla Street. The choir members have also performed charity concerts – the most important one they can be proud of is the Nura from Aleppo organised by the Polish Medical Mission, during which they performed alongside Aga Zaryan and Grzegorz Turnau. In October 2018, they sang for patients of the University Children’s Hospital and their caregivers. They also performed a concert in Montresor, France, in the summer of 2017. In addition to guest concerts, you can regularly see and hear them at their regular meeting place, i.e. “Kontakt. Movement and Dance Space” on Szpitalna Street in Krakow.

The repertoire of the Kontakt Choir includes works by great composers – Bach and Mozart, Renaissance music, songs known from films, and traditional melodies from all over the world. The choir draws heavily from the richness of oriental music, but among the songs it performs there are also compositions from Africa, America and the Far East. Their concerts take listeners on a musical journey around the world, bringing the foreign closer and opening their eyes to what is yet unknown.

The main goal of creating an amateur choir at “Kontakt. Movement and Dance Space” was to gather a group of people creating music with joy and love. It’s open for those who want to sing, enjoy and participate in an activity that brings together primarily amateur singers but also professionals in the field of music and dance. You don’t have to be a professional musician to sing in the choir. If you like to sing, to express something in a different way, or even cry, scream, whisper and create a unique atmosphere – this place is for you.
